Suburban Revitalization Project
Taz Welch is a 2025 graduate of Broken Arrow High School. She was a student at Vanguard Academy, which provides an amazing 4 year specialty STEM education.
Senior year, each Vanguard student does a Capstone Project. Taz chose a Suburban Revitalization project restoring the Flag Pole Garden at Central Park. Originally this garden honored our veterans. Once the beautiful Veterans Park was created, this area became neglected. With amazing organizational skills, Taz met with City Parks and Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful leaders. She applied for and received an Environmental Excellence Grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. The new garden is all about sustainable gardening with pollinator plants and milkweed for our monarchs.
Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful is so proud of Taz and our being able to help with this project. This makes the 3rd KBAB garden in Central Park: Our first was the 2020 Monarch Pollinator Garden by the Playground created with another Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Grant. Second is the 2025 Gardens at Central Park, funded by the 2018 Bond Vote and now Taz’s Flag Pole Garden. All three gardens emphasize sustainable gardening & provide habitat for our struggling pollinators.
